John 20:24, 25 - Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord." So he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe." [NKJV]

Peter, one of the disciples, swore to Jesus that he would never forsake him and would rather die than betray him. When Jesus was arrested, Peter was scared. He feared for his life. Peter was proof that although we have faults, God can still use us.

Peter

Answer:

Peter is most known for this from the account of his tailing after Christ following His arrest. Someone recognized him along the way... and when queried, he grew fearful for his life, in terror denied knowing Him, and disappeared into the night.

In reality, however... all the rest of Jesus' disciples felt Peter's delayed fear and dread of the Jews and disappeared, immediately. All their hopes and dreams of ruling in the Kingdom that Jesus was supposed to establish... and which He promised them [Matt.19:27-28]... had vanished in a moment.

It's just that they didn't hang around long enough for anyone to recognize or inquire of them regarding their association with Jesus.

Their actions were nonetheless a denial of knowing Jesus -- and was a quite human reaction of fear and terror to the events that transpired.

None of them had yet received the Holy Spirit that was to come at Pentecost, which would give them the heart of God, embolden them, and cast out their fear of men.

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of Power, and of Love, and of a Sound Mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the Power of God..." (II Tim.1:7-8).

But, in the initial heat of that earlier "unconverted" moment... long before Pentecost, when he would stand up, boldly, and preach Jesus and His salvation to those who murdered Him [Acts 2:36]... it was Peter who uttered his denial of Him, verbally.

"Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man... Peter remembered the Words of Jesus... And he went out, and wept bitterly." (Matt.26:74-75)

Although there possibly were others, Thomas was not with the others when Jesus first appeared and he doubted the other's report that Jesus had returned. Jesus appeared again and Thomas did not doubt any more.

What did Peter the disciple of Jesus do to betray Jesus?

Judas Iscariot betrayed jesus for 30 pieces of silver (about a month's wages for a non-skilled worker). He basically told the ruling council of the Temple, and the priests, where he could be found so he could be arrested in secret. This was to prevent his many supporters from rioting as many regarded him as the promised messiah. Note there were 2 Judases in the diciples (the other being Judas, son of Alpheus) and so it was Judas Iscariot who was the betayer. Peter didn't betray Jesus but he did deny ever knowing him (3 times) at his trial, to save his own skin. However, after the resurrection, Jesus forgave him and reinstated him as leader of the disciples. Peter was his supporter. ANOTHER ANSWER: Directly; Judas. Indirectly; Peter and all of Jesus' disciples abandoned and betrayed Him when they "denied" knowing Him; fearing the Jews more than their Master. Peter denied Him, directly, three times... the other disciples, running away, denied Him through their cowardly, unconverted, carnal minded, totally human reaction to the terrifying circumstances.
