There probably won't make an American rewrite they already made all 3 movies dubbed
It would indeed be tragic if Hollywood screwed up yet another great Japanese movie classic by doing a remake of Death Note. But if they really must remake it, and remake it without the perfection that was Ken'ichi Matsuyama to play L - and considering from others' suggestions that Johnny Depp is too old to play L, despite being one of the few actors charasmatic and talented enough to the role off - then perhaps Depp's young doppelganger and virtually unknown actor Thomas McDonell might be worth considering...if you can forgive McDonell's Disney connection to the film 'Prom', he seems reasonably 'brooding and unusual' from his interviews to give playing L a shot...just don't use don't use the overexposed and inappropriate Robert 'Twilight' Pattison - please don't do it Hollywood. Now as for Zac Efron playing Light Yagami...erm...

This movie takes us back to the 80s era of action flicks. This is not a remake of any movie as such, it only recreates the atmosphere of an 80's action movie. The movie has been likened to The Wild Geese, but "Expendables" is an original and not a remake
