The four species in Dawn of War II are the Space Marines, Orks, Eldar, and Tyranids.
You must have the previous games to play the other races. With the Original you get the Space Marines, Eldar, Chaos and the Orks. Winter Assault you get Imperial guard. With Soulstorm you get the Sisters of Battle and the Dark Eldar.
The choice is purely aesthetic. Both sides have equal mechanics, the game balances the different factions power levels. Choose whichever faction appeals to you visually, neither side has any superior advantage over the other in terms of game play. Winning is about correct troop selection and deployment within the restrictions of your given scenario, not which faction you are using.
