American Minutemen

The objective of the march on Lexington was to capture some of the "rebels" who were organizing the minutemen to fight against the British rule. The objective for Concord was to capture and destroy stores of ammunitions.

The British did not capture any of the organizers as they had sufficient warning from Paul Revere. But some men stood on the town square to oppose the British and about 8(?) Colonists were killed. When the British reached Concord, they did find and destroy some supplies.

Then the American minutement of Bedford (town) attacked the British at the North Bridge in Concord where the first British casualties. The British column began a withdrawal. They suffered more casualties back at a ridge outside of Lexington. As they retreated, the alarm went out to more and more towns and the Colonists began to take a toll on the British by firing from behind houses and stone walls.

There were deaths on both sides, but the number of British killed out-numbered the Colonists.
