To help reduce the effects the government, citizens, emergency services and other people all helped clean the mess that the hurricane had made, tried to help and save as many people and animals as they could and they set up camps for people whose homes had been destroyed.
It first made landfall on August 25, 2005 in South Florida, as a category 1 hurricane. It had wind speeds of 80mph.It made its' second landfall as a Category 4 hurricane near Buras-Triumph, Louisiana with 145 mph winds. This happened on August 28th.Hurricane Katrina then made its third landfall near Pearlington, Mississippi and Slidell, Louisiana, with sustained winds of 120 mph (193 km/h).The deaths that occured were largely the fault of rescue teams, being stopped from rescuing.
