If they were to only use they`re physical strength: Knuckles, because first of all Knuckles possess alot of power, and Mario can`t crush a guy with super strength...but with weapons...idk...because of course Mario will become star, and for Knuckles...he has the MASTER emerald...which has more power then the chaos emeralds...and can control them...and doesn`t Star Mario run out of power? The Master Emerald doesn't run out.
