Which one, the one in Britain was written by Lord Baden Powell and many variations have been made off of that orignial version. In 1908's Scouting for Boys, BP pens the original scout promise as follows:

On my honour I promise that---

  1. I will do my duty to God and the King.
  2. I will do my best to help others, whatever it costs me.
  3. I know the scout law, and will obey it.

While taking this oath the scout will stand, holding his right hand raised level with his shoulder, palm to the front, thumb resting on the nail of the digitus minimus (little finger) and the other three fingers upright, pointing upwards:--- This is the scout's salute and secret sign

Now, the Boy Scouts of America currently have thier own Scout Oath that is:

On my honor I will do my best

To do my duty to God and my country

and to obey the Scout Law;

To help other people at all times;

To keep myself physically strong,

mentally awake, and morally straight.

The original Boy Scout Oath was written by the founder of modern scouting, Baden-Powell. The BSA uses a different oath, written by Ernest Seton, that was adapted from Powell's original.
