It is a common misconception that Mozart wrote Twinkle Twinkle Little Star at the age of four or five. He did not. This is the age he was when the original French folk song was written under the name of "Ah ! vous dirai-je, Maman", in 1761. Mozart did, however, write a series of variations on this melody when he was much older.

The words to "Twinkle Twinkle" were penned by Jane Taylor, in 1806.

'Twinkle Twinkle little star' was composed by Mozart when he was 5 years old.

Since then it has become a classic

The melody of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", the A-B-C song and other children's songs was adapted from a French folk song, "Ah, vous dirai-je, maman." Mozart did write a set of variations on the song, but he was not the original composer.

The lyrics of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" were written as a poem, called "The Star" by Jane Taylor. It was published in 1806.

The melody is an old French tune, "Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman" which was published in 1761 but may be older than that.

Many composers, including the young Mozart, have made compositions based on that tune.
