The poem that starts "T'saw the night before Christmas..." was originally titled "A visit from St. Nicholas" and was published anonymously in 1826. It was later attributed to Clement Clark Moore, who claimed authorship in 1837. Moore was a writer and professor at the General Theological Seminatry of the Protestant Episcopal Church in New York City.
However, some now believe it was written by Henry Livingstom, Jr.
