if you go to i think its funfacts.com it will tell you that its not about anybody inpaticular. They wanted to do a love song dealing with teen tradgedy. In other words, they were teenagers who were dating and he is killed in a car wreck one night and she is asking all the what ifs. what if she would have taken his keys? What if he would have turned left instead of right? What if she had said no and they never fell in love? Would it hurt as bad? I just wanted to know what the song was about and came across this info.
How did the band sugarland get their name?
Sugarland's song "Joey" wasn't written for anyone specific. "Joey" is a character that Sugarland has written into many of their songs. Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles describes the song as a "teen tragedy song."
Joey is an original song by Sugarland. And I don't believe there is a personal connection.
No, but they also mention Joey in Everyday America.

Sugarland's best song is It Happens.
The song "Baby Girl" by Sugarland was written by Kristian Bush, Kristen Hall, Jennifer Nettles, and Troy Bieser. They wrote it in 2004. Also, it was Sugarland's first single!
She was married and now is divorced. She was going through her divorce when they were making the video for "Stay". The emotion she showed in that video is real. Kristian tried to stop it when he saw how emotional she was but she wanted to keep it. Sugarland then went on tour with Kenny Chesney and she is currently seeing Chesney's guitarist Clayton Mitchell.
