They have been produced since about 1962 by Field Enterprises of Chicago. they are not fantasy, but do suffer from some historical distortions as exaggerating the role of the American Presidents, Nixon(credited) for the Apollo II landing, for example a cartoon OS a Saturn rocket launch with Nixon in the background )(events of the Nixon administration) This concept seems to be a derivative of Regalian Right which dates to at least Elizabethan Times.

As with most encyclopedias, there was not just one author, but several, and new ones are added as the content is reviewed and updated.

The previous answerer said it as the writer as a "dumbshit" (sorry if my language is too offensive) and that is insulting World Book Inc. The encyclopedia is published by World Book Inc. and it is not written alone, but by >3,000 contributors. Check in the front of volume 1 you can find all the contributors. The previous answerer (i don't know the name) had insulted World Book Inc. 100%. I was extremely disappointed when i was seeing the previous answer. It is very hard to make it, it will need a lot of time to publish it, but the contributors still want to make it. So, their work must be appreciated, not insulted, and they gave us a lot of knowledge in a 22-volume set. So please tell the previous answerer not to insult and make fun on any hardworking people anymore. The contributors are hardworking, so appreciate them.
