The People's Crusade was a prelude to the First Crusade that took place in 1096. It was led by Peter the Hermit and consisted of a large army of peasants and commoners who set out for the Holy Land. However, the crusade ended in disaster as the ill-prepared and undisciplined army faced numerous hardships and was swiftly defeated by the Seljuk Turks in Anatolia. Only a small fraction of the original army survived to reach Jerusalem.
The People's Crusade was only one part of the First Crusade, when paupers who were inspired by the preachings of various priests and monks tried to make a joint pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Since they needed less preparing, they departed before the main crusade, but were mostly crushed when they reached Turkey. Some surviving members lingered in Constantinople and joined the army of nobles, when they arrived.
Get an army, move it out of a settlement so it is on the game map. Right click on the general (you may have to have a family member leading the army) and there will be a small button towards the bottom that says "join crusade." Click that, and if you have a big enough army they will join the Crusade.

pope Urban 2
the first crusade was started by the Turkish Muslims invading the holy land. then the Byzantine empire called pope urban to help. he accepted the request and joined together a big army with more then a thousand people including knights, nobles and soldiers.
The official date for the First Crusade was the 15th August 1096, (the date of the Feast of the Assumption). But, before this some unexpected armies of peasants and minor nobles left for Jerusalem, led by Peter the Hermit and Walter Sansavior, this became known as the Peoples Crusade. Unfortunately most of them were killed in a battle at Civetot. The main army of Crusaders reached what was known as Asia Minor in that time around April 1097, where they were joined by Peter the Hermit and the remains of the Peoples Crusade Army, (Walter Sansavior being one of those already killed).
Richard the lionhearted was the leader of the catholic Army during the third crusade and Saladin was his opponent. Saladin was the leader of the Islamic side of the third crusade.
He fought the third crusade, one of the only two that accomplished something. I'd hope he had an army if he did that.
Well, really there isn't a particular reason, if indeed this is a colloquial reference for the Third Crusade that I'm not aware of then it is probably, as a previous person answered,"Because the kind of England Richard the Lion Heart (Richard the III) lead his army himself during the holy crusades."However, I think you may be getting confused; I would reference the Second Crusade as the Kings' Crusade because this was the first time that royalty had been on crusade - partially due to the king of France - Philip I - having been excommunicated shortly before the events of the First Crusade.Hope that helps!
