There are many attributes of a Guru are provided by the Sikh and Hindu Holy men in their writings. I will endeavour to list some. Guru is only one of the entire world through all ages. He is one with God, therefore can lead us to all truths and light. Without Guru there is no knowledge and salvation. One cannot make his Guru any body unless true Guru chooses him to be his follower. People have wrong concept of a Guru. They call any one guru who has followers these days, and in my view they are all false ones.

The true Guru is only one of the whole universe. He is centre of all major scriptures. His glory and praise is sung by all holy men of God, because they received true knowledge and enlightenment from this universal Guru. In GuruGranth Sahib it is mentioned many times over that the glorious work that has been done by this universal Guru for the children of men is praised in the Vedas, Quran, Bible, and in Sikh Granth. Guru cannot be a book, He is outside that, an eternal being. I know this Guru. This is Jesus Christ. I can back it up by references from the Sikh Gurbani.

What is the leader of Sikhism called?

Sikhs don't have any religious leader nor do they have any priestly class for performing religious functions. At their place of worship which is Gurudwara, there is usually a person who act as more of a care taker than being a religious leader. That person is usually called Granthi or Bhaji. Sikhs do have what they call Akal Takhat where they do make religious decision. The head of Akal Takhat is called Jethadar. But its more of an organisation where people make decision after discussion and sometimes even arguments. But as such there is no religious leader.
