The basic Answer is: Christ's life. "Let this mind [attitude, frame of mind, understanding] be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." Philippians 2:5.

The Apostle Paul makes it clear that it is God's purpose for us to be like Christ in Romans 8:28,29: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren." God in omniscience (as all-knowing) knew those who would believe and trust Christ as the one who paid for their sins on the Cross. A true Christian should sense that God is leading him to be more and more like Christ.

The Apostle John instructed in 1 John 2:3-6: "And hereby we do know that we know him (Christ Jesus), if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked." The one who says that he surely knows Christ, is only telling the truth, if he endeavors wholeheartedly to keep the commandments and instructions that Christ gave. If he does this, he has assurance in his heart that he is one of the children of God through Christ.

Then the obligation for that Christian is to walk in the same way that Christ did (v.6). This is beyond our natural abilities, so we need to have God's strength to move in that direction. As Paul said, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Philippians 4:13. Not to be thinking that we somehow have arrived in this, Paul says, "Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:12-14.

Simply put, we are not to think ht we have obtained perfection, but need to "press on" to be more like Christ, realizing the "prize" or reward of God awaits those Christians who earnestly strive to do right. It is a "high calling" for anyone, only possible to move towards in Christ's strength.
