Ironically Jackson, a southerner, was opposed to Federal Currency and Jackson"s war on the Bank is historical fact Old Hickory earned his nickname in the Battle of New Orleans described fairly accurately inthe song by that name. c uriously hammer-head handles are often of this durable wood. I do not know of any other historical personage with this nickname, there is a distillery by this name in Philadelphia, I wanted to mention this in a homework assignment on Jackson,but my dad intervened- they"ll think there"s an alcoholic in the family! onty he other hand everyone is familiar with the Ballantine Blast of ( Owlll Melloonn!) I mean Mel Allen.
