The Australian Coat of Arms does not appear on the Centenary of Federation Five Dollar note. On the standard issue Five Dollar note, it appears as a "shadow image" which can be seen if you hold the note up to good light. The Coat of Arms can just be seen if you look at the space between the gum leaves and the vertical writing of "Australia", level with the Queen's forehead.
The modern US five dollar bill (or note) does not have a red star on it. some older versions did carry a seal printed in red, but this would hardly be seen as a star.
Any large size note must be seen for an accurate assessment, many things effect the value. So please, have a qualified collector/dealer look at the note.
The Australian Five Dollar note was first issued on the 29th of May, 1967, over 15 months after the introduction of decimal currency on the 14th of February, 1966. Although it was seen as an error of omission by many that it was not included in the original release of decimal banknotes, it was deliberately released later to allow a smooth transition from existing Pound notes to their equivalent Dollar notes. The Five Dollar note was the equivalent of Two Pounds, Ten Shillings in the old currency.
