a big letter V
It's a representation of Miss Liberty
The date 2004 is on the front of the coin, it was NOT struck in 1803. It's just a nickel, spend it.
Sorry, the first US nickel was made in 1866 please look at the coin again and post new question.
No coin exists. Nickels were first struck in 1866.
There's no such coin. The U.S. did not mint nickels until 1866. If your coin has a picture of Thomas Jefferson on the front, it's a modern commemorative nickel issued to mark the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark expedition. It's worth exactly 5 cents.
No such coin exists. Nickels were first minted in 1866. The 5 cent coin in 1803 was a half dime which was struck in silver. And the 1803 example would be the draped bust variety.MoreYou may be thinking of a 2004 Westward Journey nickel issued as part of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial observances. One version of that coin carries 1803, the expedition's starting year, as part of its reverse design.
All US coins minted in 1803 carried a picture of Miss Liberty. Silver coins minted in 1803 included half-dimes, dimes, half-dollars, and dollars. Please make sure your coin is actually from 1803 and doesn't carry that date as part of a commemorative inscription (e.g. the Lewis and Clark commemorative nickel issued in 2004), then check out the Related Questions below for more information.
If your coin is a nickel please turn it over. The minting date is 2004, on the front. The date 1803 honors the Lewis and Clark expedition. If it's any other coin, pleas post a new, separate question with its denomination. You can also look for questions like "What is the value of an 1803 US <coin name>?", e.g. "What is the value of an 1803 US large cent?"
There's no such thing as an 1803 nickel, because the coin wasn't first minted until 1866. However, if the date 1803 is above two hands shaking, and the other side shows President Jefferson, then it's a 2004 Westward Journey nickel, worth exactly 5 cents.

Just in case this is not a "Joke Question" turn the coin over to the obverse (front) an you will see the date 2004. It's just a nickel.
