Water molecules are smaller than alcohol ones. Water ones can fit between alcohol ones. Fill a container with pure alcohol to the top and add water. A certain amount will go into the container and not cause it to overflow.

What happens if you mix chlorine bleach and rubbing alcohol?

Answer#1The alcohol, being less dense will float on top. They do not react. This answer is nonsense. Alcohol and bleach will mix, and they react, but not in a way that will kill you. Alcohol is less dense than water or bleach (water plus sodium hypochlorite) but alcohol and water do mix... mixed drinks, anyone?

Did alcohol and 50 ml of water reach the 100 ml mark on the cylinder?

This sounds like an observation question from a lab, so your answer should be what you observed in the lab. However, the standard answer to this is no, 50 mL of alcohol (usually ethanol or methanol) plus 50 mL of water should not equal 100 mL of volume; it usually reads about 97 or 98 mL. This is because the alcohol used here and water are miscible - they mix together and the alcohol fits within the spaces between the water molecules, taking up slightly less room than it would if the two didn't mix together like this.
