The reason for increasing the voltage in the electric network is, in fact, that it saves energy. The power dissipated in electric wiring is proportional to the square of the electric current. By increasing the voltage, the current decreases provided that the power consumption at the consumer is to remain constant. This means less loss in the electric network. For the same reason, very high voltages, hundreds of thousand volts, are used in long-distance wires. The voltage is converted using Transformers when it reaches the consumers, with a relatively low power loss.

What do you do after you get the lantern on Cryptids Island?

When you exit the monastery, climb farther up the mountain. A monk will test you with the Yeti and the Hunters game, and if you win, he will let you pass. Climb to the roof of the monastery, then jump up to the snowy path at upper left, where you will find a large, mysterious footprint. Take a photo of the footprint and bring it back to Mews at the Lab. (You need the camera that you get from Loch Ness.) The footprint, however, does not prove anything, and once you have it (and the lantern) you do not return to the Himalayas. Instead, prove the other three cryptids (Nessie, Chupacabra, and Jersey Devil) and Mews will send you the Pacific Northwest in search of Bigfoot instead.
