Autoplay isn't missing from HD drive properties.

It simply isn't an option available to a static Harddrive. Autoplay will work with an external drive (harddrive, USB etc) though. It was not designed to work with an internal Harddrive.

Autoplay is a feature that automatically starts a program or displays a list of files when a disk is inserted into the CD/DVD drive or a flash drive/external drive is plugged into the computer.

The very nature of a harddrive - holding multiple programs - makes it impossible for this feature to work. First, internal harddrives are not generally unplugged and plugged in - they remain hooked up so there is nothing to trigger the autoplay feature.

Second, because of the fact HD hold so many programs, an autoplay feature could trigger multiple programs to start up immediately. It is not practical.

When you connect pen drive computer gets hang?

If you're using Windows, this could be caused by several things. 1) Windows is indexing the contents of the pen drive for searching. To disable: # Press Windows key + E to open My Computer # Right click drive icon # Properties # Uncheck "Index this drive for faster searching" (This option may or may not appear. If it does not, then this is not your problem.) 2) Your antivirus software may be automatically scanning the contents of the drive. You should probably not disable this feature. 3) The Autoplay feature may be enabled and Windows is running some program set to run when the drive is connected. To disable in XP: # Start Menu # Control Panel # Hardware and Sound # "Autoplay" # Uncheck "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" To disable in Vista: # Start Menu # Control Panel # AutoPlay # Uncheck "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" 4) You may either have the drive plugged into a USB 1.0 slot, or it's plugged into a USB 2.0 slot with incorrect drivers/configuration settings. (This problem is a bit more complex and should be the subject of an entire question.)
