One of the advantages of purchasing a wireless router from BT is that it will also allow you to connect to BT hotspots, meaning that if there was ever a problem with your router, you could still connect to a hotspot, and would not lose internet connection between when the router failed and when the repair could be done.

When you purchase a wireless cable router and have it connected so that you can use the Internet from your home, be sure you get everything connected the right way. Call the phone company and get them to reset your router so you don't have this issue.
If you have a dsl wireless router, don't be fooled into thinking that the service will be excellent. According to Life123.com, "If you're experiencing wireless signal issues, you can always add a wireless signal amplifier. An amplifier connects to your wireless router and boosts the signal output, typically by connecting to where your antenna connects. Wireless signal amplifiers also boost the receiving capabilities of your wireless router, ultimately increasing your network speed and ensuring that you never lose signal." You can buy them here (see related links).
If you are running a modem that has an Ethernet port, plug the Ethernet port into the switch, along with all the computers. Actually you may want to get a "Router" for the extra "Hardware" Firewall and in case you get a wireless Printer, etc, make it a "wireless" Router. Most Wireless Routers come with a 4 port Lan also. They're coming out with Gigabit Routers (Lan ports) now so you won't lose your "local" Lan speed, IF you need it.
