There is a adjustment to dim the dash lights the adjustment may be turned dow, some models have a wheel type switch or similar, check owners manual. It is called the rheostat.
Probably the dash fuse is blown, or the dimmer switch for the dash lights is bad!
Check for a loose ground wire - sounds like lights are backfeeding searching for ground
