'Fire ants' generally refer to ants in the genus Solenopsis, or Wasmannia auropunctata (the 'little fire ant').'Red ants' is a common name that is applied to a wide variety of red colored ants. The usage is generally regional.
I live in Florida. Before I had Argentine ants (little black ants, bazillions of them) I had Fire ants. Fire ants are not very nice Ants since they bite and like to wait until several hundred of them are halfway up your pant leg so one of them can give the signal so they can all bite at the same time. I don't see any way of getting rid of these little guys, but I can say that since they showed up, the Fire Ants are GONE. The Argentine Ants are the Fire Ants enemy and did a fine job of wiping them out.
These are all types of ants
No- fire ants are insects like other ants.
A queen ant starts a colony of the same type of ant it is. So if the queen is a black ant queen then she will produce black ants, if she is a fire ant queen then she will produce fire ants, etc. (strange question bro)

Fire ants sting and hurt people and animals.
I have used fire ants to get rid of yellow jackets in my yard. So in my experience fire ants win every time.
