It's all down to cost ! It's cheaper to build the framework from H or I beams - as they use less resources than solid ones. The way they're put together - coupled with the makeup of the beams makes them just as strong as is they were solid ones.
You get the same strength fora fraction of the mass. i out construction the less the mass the higher you can build it. In addition the problem of lifting the mass up to the top of the construction. A heavier lift is harder to do.
The other solution provided by shaped beams is the relative ease of bolting or riveting them together compared with sold beams.
This shape of beam has been adopted by wood frame builders where e floor joists are now three part construction (a wooden I beam)

civil engineers, structural engineers, and architects are the main bridge builders.
Without Engineers the world would never be imagined. There will not be any ease in life.No transportation,No concrete Building, No technology and software.Life will be dull and stand alone.

Engineers can be used to capture enemy buildings - if the building is in green or yellow health, an engineer can enter it to damage it further. If it is on red, then the building will be captured. Also, they can be used to repair your own buildings. Each of these 'uses up' the engineer, it is lost to you.

Association of Building Engineers was created in 1925.
Building engineers design and maintain buildings and perform diagnostics on existing structures. There's an excellent forum for and about building engineers at http://www.indeed.com/forum/job/Building-Engineer.html. For job listings, search CareerBuilder or check out http://www.constructionexecutive.com/top-100.html for top job listings.
Building engineers use math to help them figure out how big or how small to make the house or whatever they are building.
Engineers use trigonometry anywhere that involves non-right angles. That includes building cars and buildings, bridges, and many other structures. they also use trigonometry when dealing with fields, like magnetic and electric fields. Also, trigonometry is very important with engineers who deal with waves, such as sound or light engineers.
Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers was created in 1976.

Building buildings with stronger structures, but also with flexibility, so that they will hold up in earthquakes. Because earthquakes don't kill people, buildings do.
