Europeans came to America for religious freedom because King Henry was forcing all Europeans to follow the religion of the Church of England. Therefore, all the people who did not choose to do that came to America in search of freedom from the Catholic Church of England.

Many Europeans came to the American colonies in search of religious freedom due to religious persecution in their homelands. They sought the ability to practice their religion freely without fear of punishment or discrimination. This desire for religious freedom was a driving force behind the settlement of colonies such as Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay.

A:

The most important reason European nations fought over religion was power. The pope wanted power over the eastern patriarch, who refused to concede that power. The pope wanted temporal power over European kings. The kings, and particularly the emperor, wanted power over the pope, at least on temporal matters. In some cases, it even came down to which pope or contender for the papacy different nations supported, since the papacy wielded great power. The Catholic Church feared the loss of power and revenue if 'heretics' such as the Cathars successfully maintained their independence. The Protestant Reformation exacerbated this fear, as entire nations turned away from the Catholic Church and demonstrated that it was possible to be Christian but not give loyalty to the pope.
