AM has a frequency range of 531 kHz to 1602 kHz and on the other hand FM has a frequency range between 8705 MHz to 108 MHz. If we talk about the bandwidth of AM then it is 1071 KHz and bandwidth of FM is 20.5 MHz.According to the bandwidth FM should be used for long distance transmission but it is not used for long distance but AM is used fir long distance transmissions. the answer is here.Long distance transmissions are also decided by the Spectrum of the Signal in frequency domain by doing the Fouriertransform of the Signal. If we draw the Spectrum of AM waves the we find that their is a main loop in the central part of the spectrum with a high frequency and on the left and right side of this loop their are side loop which are very smaller then the main loop. In FM information can be recover from the main loop only not from the side loops. On the other hand in AM waves all the loops in spectrum is of same size and information can be recover from all the loops. That is why AM is used for long distance transmission.Thnx -Vipin Jasoria
The reason FM has lower power and AM has higher power is because the more power that an AM signal has, the farther it will go, but FM does not work that way. AM waves can bounce off of the atmosphere, especially at night. This is the reason that you can hear AM stations from far away at night. FM, on the other hand, can't bounce. FM waves only go in a straight line from the tower and no matter how much power you transmit with, an FM wave will only go a short distance. AM Waves can travel through trees and buildings, and FM can't.
Amplifier is used in an FM transmitter to increase the level of a signal suitable for transmission
No. They dare not for fear of the deadly FM syndrome. This is a little known but fatal disease which aliens get when they us FM cause by the very poor DJs and music played.
limiter mainly used to limit the amplitude of FM waveform.because of, in FM the frequency only varied but amplitude also varied due to noise . to cancel the amplitude variation limiter mainly used
becouse FM is applicable for line of sigth distance only. MAYANK S
AM and FM AM=Amplitude Modulation FM=Frequency Modulation Hope this helps
Low, medium and high frequencies is ideal for long distance communication but it is very sensitive to QRM and QRN because only amplitude modulation can be used on this part of the RF spectrum, FM modulation is not possible, where in the higher frequencies, FM (Frequency Modulation) is a beter option but with the drawback of distance overland. VHF, UHF and UUHF can't overcome obstacles like hills, mountains and large buildings, only line of site communication can be used here, although it can be used for long distance in open space IE. in outer space, like satellite communication.

The FM signal is more amune to static in the atmosphere than AM signals.
Amplitude Modulation and Frequency Modulation. They are different methods of transmitting radio signals. AM is good for transmitting radio signals long distance FM is good for transmitting radio signals short distances but better quality
Yes, FM does travel in space. In fact I believe that at least some space communication utilizes FM signals (data and voice).
Actually, AM is better than FM. AM can cover the world, and is the best form of communication. FM is completely worthless except for the fact that it's better sounding.

Since FM signals have shorter wavelength and high frequency, it is diffracted much. Therefore it is not suitable for long distance communiation.
AM radio is KHz FM radio is MHz AM radio can cover the world. FM radio can cover a county. AM radio is excellent in communication. FM radio is completely worthless, except for good sound quality. AM radio doesn't have as good sound quality as FM. FM is much higher on the radio spectrum than AM.
