The Cyclops (in 'The Odyssey') is the Son of Poseidon, that is why he should and does help this Cyclops.

Explanation:

In Homer's, 'The Odyssey,' the Cyclops, who traps Odysseus and his companions, is the Offspring (Child) of Poseidon and a Sea Nymph; therefore it stands to reason that Poseidon lent a helping hand to this specific Cyclops, because naturally parents help and/or watch over their children (especially the Greek & Roman God's and their children).
