They didn't, the people did- (we did) he claim he was the son of God
It was the Roman authorities that killed Jesus, not the Roman Catholic Church.
i remember the roman king was jealous of Jesus and he (Jesus) was taking his followers so the king got mad and jealous
Jesus was taken to Roman court for trial by the Governor Pontius Pilate. As the Jews did not have the power to kill anyone on the cross, it rested entirely on the Roman Governor.
The person who nailed Jesus to the cross was a roman . As the Jews did not have the right to kill anybody. They did not have the power to do so.
The Jews were angry as he , Jesus said he was the son of god, the Romans were against him as they did not want their empire toppled.
In a way, everyone "killed" Jesus because He died for our sins (Willingly though). No, Catholics didn't really kill Jesus physically, the people that killed Jesus were the people living in Jerusalem specifically the Jewish priests at the time. The people and leaders wanted Jesus dead and the Roman soldiers killed Him. We're called Roman Catholics because our Church took shape mainly around Rome and uses the Roman rite (Latin Rite). The term Roman Catholic doesn't have anything to do with Roman people at the time of Jesus. We should not hate Jews or Romans etc. since Jesus loves everybody and everyone (including Catholics) have taken part in killing Jesus through our sins.
The Roman authorities saw Jesus as a potential threat to their power and authority, especially after he was hailed as the King of the Jews. They also yielded to pressure from Jewish religious leaders who viewed Jesus as a blasphemer. Jesus' teachings and growing popularity created unrest among the people that the authorities wanted to quell.
They had him put to death for many reasons. Fear was part of it. Jesus was looked at as an instigator and provocateur and the Pharisees were afraid that he (Jesus) would eventually bring the wrath of the Roman Empire down on them.
Judea was not headed by a governor. It was administered by a prefect on behalf of the Governor of Syria. Pontius Pilate, the prefect, did not want Jesus to be executed. He thought that he was innocent. It was he crowd in Jerusalem who wanted Jesus executed.
