The majority of New France colonists settled along the St. Lawrence River. The reason they came to settle in New Spain is because there was not a lot of room left in New France and because since there was not a lot of room they came over to New Spain.

Conquistadors were Portuguese and Spanish adventurers. Conquistador comes from the Spanish word for conquerors. They settled quite a bit of the world in the 15th through 17th centuries for Portugal and Spain.
Spain initially referred to the New World as "the Indies," believing they had reached the outskirts of Asia, particularly the Indian subcontinent, when Christopher Columbus arrived in 1492. This misnomer stemmed from their goal of finding a westward route to Asia for trade. The term "New World" eventually came into use as the understanding of the Americas as a distinct continent evolved.
The New World was discovered by mistake. Spain hoped that to sail in the opposite direction will get it to India.
