Mercury receives the most solar radiation from the Sun, and its rotation is very slow, so the surface can heat up to over 430 degrees C. But when that part of the surface faces away from the Sun, the temperature drops to minus 200 degrees C. There is no atmosphere to distribute the heat. By contrast, Venus, the hottest planet, has a dense atmosphere of carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid clouds. This is the reason that Venus can get hotter than Mercury. Mercury has an average surface temperature (67°) closest to the Earths average surface temperature (14°C). The temperature on Mercury varies a lot though - you could argue that Mars is closer in temperature.
