The camels ability to walk easily in the desert compared to a horse has to do with it's foot structure. A camel has a very big foot in comparison to a horses hoof. The size of the foot allows the camels greater weight to be more evenly distributed over the ground, which keeps it from sinking. In the past Bedouins would reserve their Arabian horses for short sprints or battles over relatively stable sands. The camel was used for long distance transport.

The camel is called the " ship of the desert " because of its broad pads that connects its two toes. this cushion like pad spreads when the camel places its foot on the ground. The camel use its both feet on one side of its body while walking.
