when a earthquake occurs, the plate tectonics rub together causing friction between the plates forcing the earth to shake. So when this happens, it can also happen under water. When the Plate tectonics shake under water... they uplift. Then the plate will then slip causing subsidence and releasing energy into water.. then that energy that is release is called the tsunami.
