A P J Abdul Kalam is an Indian scientist and former president of India. Before becoming President of India in 2002, he gained fame for his work in the field of ballistic missile and launch vehicle. His contributions were so important that he was called 'Missile man of India'. He also played an important role in India's nuclear tests in 1998.

After graduation from Madras Institute of Technology (MIT - Chennai) he was the Project Director, he was heavily involved in the development of India's first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III). Pokhran-II nuclear tests were conducted during this period and have been associated with Kalam although he was not directly involved with the nuclear program at the time.
