Aluminum is very lightweight for its strength. This makes it an ideal material for airplanes where every extra pound of weight means one less pound of payload.

Many modern aircraft are now being made of composite materials which are even lighter (and stronger) than aluminum.

Aluminum is very cheap(in terms of aircraft materials) and is very strong for it's weight. It is also very malleable, which means it can bend as apposed to breaking. this is important because if the metal broke, it could expose important things inside the plane such as fuel or passengers.

Aluminum is strong and light. We couldn't build aircraft without it. Though there is steel in aeroplanes, there are no steel aircraft as steel is too heavy to construct planes out of. While it is true that the Blackbird, the SR-71, had a titanium skin, it was still built with aluminum and composites to keep the weight down.

Aluminum alloys are relatively common, inexpensive, and the properties are well documented and known to engineers. There are many kinds optimized for the various fabrication process required to build a plane (machining, cold formed sheet metal, welding...). Titanium, while also light and very strong, is also less common, tends to be expensive, and is not as well known to many engineers. Most engineers, designing critical items like plane parts, prefer to 'go with what they know'.

A plane is made out of aluminum because then it is light weight and it is stronger from all the stress flying puts on the structure. Hope this helps.

Aluminum is used in aircraft due to it's low weight to cost ratio, materials such as Carbon Fiber or Titanium are lighter but far more expensive.

Why are airplanes made out of aluminum?

Airplanes are made out of aluminum alloys because weight is such an important factor in aircraft design. Aluminum and aluminum alloys are much lighter than other metals.

Why are aroplanes made from aluminum alloy rather than pure aluminum?

Pure aluminum is not strong enough as building material for airplanes. Alloy with Al are stronger.

What is airplanes made of?

Airplanes are made of a variety of materials. The earliest ones were made of pine wood and canvas. Then steel braces and nylon. Airplanes now can be made out of anything from wood and canvas, to magnesium alloys and aluminum. Most private planes are made out of canvas-nylons and steel frames. Commercial jets can be made out of aluminum and new models are starting to use light weight magnesium frames to cut down on weight and improve fuel efficiency. The most common material used now is aluminum and steel alloys.
