  1. Sodium from salt is absorbed into the bloodstream, and the thicker blood causes an increase in blood pressure.
  2. Salt water, or water with any dissolved substance, is more difficult for the body to process. The body may not be able to absorb much water, or could actually throw off water to carry the salt out of the body. This can lead to dehydration.
