According to theHindu mythology , when Lord Ram (Lord Vishnu's avatar) went in search of his wife , Maa Sita (who was kidnapped by Ravana , the demon) , he met a monkey , named Hanuman , the son of the ruler of Kishkindha . Hanuman helped Lord Ram in his search and the fight against Ravana , which led to the release of Maa Sita . Hanuman was a great devotee of Lord Ram . He was given the boon of being immortal .

Since he was a monkey , Hindus started worshipping monkeys to pay their homage to this great deity . This is the reason why Hindus monkeys are worshipped .
