It's a Slavic thing. For whatever reason somewhere in the development of the Slavic ethnic group, misery was one of the key personality traits adopted. Like Italians and their love of talking with their hands, Frenchman and their love of romance, the British and their love of unnecessarily large words. Misery is as Slavic as pointy noses, furry hats, and gross soup.
