I'm not sure it's fair to say that "southerners" are against President Obama. It's more accurate to say that white, conservative southerners (especially those who are conservative Christians) are against him, or at least they oppose his policies (or what they are told his policies are by conservative media like Fox News or right-wing Talk Shows). There are some southerners who do agree with Mr. Obama on certain issues, but in general, the south is very traditional and politically conservative-- and it has been this way for a long time. It is undoubtedly true that some southerners dislike having a black president; but others just disagree with him on social issues like gay marriage or they oppose his policies (such as the health care law).
