I don't believe that they do adapt. If you're speaking of evolution then you must know that animals were all created at once, they don't need to adapt because they were made perfedt from the begining. Anyway, how could a creature like a giraffe evolve from a small organism in a puddle? The chances of that happening are like the chances of finding a million dollars everywhere you walk!

- im sorry, but actually they do adapt depending on being an ectotherm or endotherm. They need adaptations because without them, the severe changes in the ecosystems would simply not allow them to live. Also, comes in the whole idea of off springs and everything about evolution. Animals have adapted and evolutionised for a very long time, an example of this is the red-kanagroo, the wombat, platypus etc. look it up.

Adaptations are characteristics that enable the survival of organisms in a particular environment. For example, a polar bear living in the cold will need to have lots of brown fat in their bodies to keep them warm. This is an adaptation. It would freeze to death without it. However, if you place this polar bear in the desert, it will not survive as it does not have the suitable characteristics (such as the ability to lose body heat quickly), and therefore will not adapt to survive in this type of environment.

Why is an adaptation important for survival?

Adaptations help organisms to survive and reproduce in their environment by increasing their chances of finding food, avoiding predators, and successfully reproducing.
