Automatic weapons as we usually think of them are really semi-automatic.
That is, you fire one bullet for each trigger pull, and the weapon charges itself with a new bullet automatically. These are not assault weapons, though most politicians think they are.
Real automatic weapons will 'spray' out a stream of bullets as long as the trigger is kept pulled. These ARE considered assault weapons.
They were outlawed largely because of their use by gangsters who had more firepower with them than the police did. Automatic weapons are pretty dangerous because of all the firepower they emit. The killings that you read about where "Assault" weapons have been used, have NOT used assault weapons, only semi-automatic weapons.
No

Explosive munitions, and rockets unless you have a class III license. Fully automatic weapons are completely legal, but you have to pay a pretty penny for the weapon, plus $200 to the ATF.
oh i know the answer...yes but only if they are semi. automatic weapons are illegal. i have seen my friends ak that belongs to his dad... you may have to have a special permit though that's hard to get im not sure
Illegal weapons are by definition already banned.
AK-47 is legal in the United States. Fully automatic versions may require a special permit in some states, and may be completely illegal in others. During the Clinton administration weapons restrictions also included certain muzzle breaks and magazine capacity.
Because its fully automatic, and was not importable pre 1986 (when the assault weapons ban was introduced). Only fully automatic weapons produced pre 1986 and were already legally owned in the US are now legal in the US. Although it IS legal for Police Departments to own Glock 18's, if they have been trained by Glock. It is also legal to own (in certain states, with strict stipulations), a Glock 17 (or any other model besides the 18) with a fully automatic sear. Which is essentially a Glock 18. **I Am NOT A Lawyer***
I don't have real-time data, but according to the most recent statistics from 2019, approximately 417 people were killed by automatic rifles in the United States. It's important to note that these numbers can vary from year to year.
The US tested napalm, bombs and chemical weapons on the Vietnam civilians.
Yes, it is legal to own a tank in the US as long as it has been properly demilitarized and does not have operational weapons.
It depends on your living area. In fact, very few weapons are actually illegal. It's just usually illegal to carry concealed weapons. If you live in Canada were there is no right to bear arms, only then is it illegal. If you have the right to bear arms then no it is not illegal.
Some US Cities have passed laws that make it illegal to possess atomic weapons in that city. Purely a symbolic gesture, and frankly, a waste of time and resources. Nuclear weapons are owned and controlled by the US Govt, which is not subject to city ordinances.
