Why are brown horses brown?

Well this would depend on your definition of 'brown'. there is bay, brown, and chestnut (technically red but looks brown to those who don't know horses) The color of a horse is decided by genetics. The foal inherits a copy of each parents genetic code and then they express themselves on the foal.
