Cell is the fundamental, functional and basic unit of life. It is cell that make tissues and organs. It is the working of cell which specifies the working of tissues and organs. Group of cells make tissues and group of tissues make organ and group of organs make organ system.

Yes cell is the str. and functional unit of life. That is why prokaryote and eukaryote are differentiated by the type of cells. Even in eukaryotic multicellular organisms different organs have specific cell type which perform specific functions, this also prove the cell as functional unit, eg. RBC's, muscle cells, neuron cells etc.
