Saturday is the Jewish sabbath day. Early christians moved their services to the day after, Sunday. This also allowed Jewish christians to attend the Synagogue on Saturday and the christian church on Sunday without conflicts in schedule (until the two religions completely separated).
Actually, the Eucharist is celebrated every day of the year, save Good Friday. However, on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, attendance at Mass is required. This once a week obligation under the old Covenant was enshrined on Saturday, the last day of the week, in the Ten Commandments. However, in the new covenant, it has been moved to the "eight day" - the First Day of the Week, as this is the day on which Our Blessed Savior rose from the dead.

Yes it is permissible to hold church services in a home. I well remember when coming to Australia holding services in the cabin with members of my faith. The Lord said "Where two or more are gathered together in my name there shall I be also". On arriving in Australia our church held services in the local village hall until we built a chapel suitable for holding all church services. In Western Australia we held services in the Bishops home as there was no chapel.
Unless there is some specific agreement between the synagogue and the relevant Christian congregation (such as a synagogue allowing Christians to pray in the synagogue on Sundays while the Christians' church is in repair), church services do not take place in synagogues. If by "church services", you actually meant "religious services," Jewish services in synagogues are held three times per day; in the morning, afternoon and evening.
