Older CFBs contained Mercury. However, today's bulbs contain little, if any, mercury. Buying today's bulbs is a good choice, as they produce the same amount of light as an incandescent bulb, but yet uses a fraction of the energy.

Is it safe to change light bulbs during a thunderstorm?

no that would be really bad

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using compact fluorescent light bulbs?

One nice thing about light bulbs is that they provide light indoors and when it is dark outside, without having to light a candle or an oil lamp. They are also relatively safe, clean and easy to operate. Disadvantages include the fact that you will need electricity and wires that are properly installed and cannot be easily moved about. It is also difficult to repair a broken light bulb or one that has burned out, and they must be disposed of and replaced.

How do light bulbs cause global warming?

In a incandescent light bulb almost 90% of the energy taken in is being wasted as heat. only 10% is being used as visible light. this means that alot of energy taken in from ex sun, vind and water are not being used as it should have been. Thats why the LED bulbs are so good because they dont give out as much wasted energy

Does it make a difference to the other light bulbs in the house if one of them doesn't work?

No, the bulbs are wired in parallel and the bad bulb could only affect others if it were short circuited, which occurs very rarely.

Are mercury vapor light bulbs which cycle on and off through out the night energy efficient vs fluorescent flood lights mounted on a motion detecting fixture?

First, if your Mercury vapor lights are cycling on and off you probably have a bad ballast. Any ballasted bulb will be much less efficient when cycling on and off. The greatest amount of power is used when the power is first transmitted through the gas within the bulb. Second, Florescent bulbs are just about as efficient as mercury vapor lumen for lumen. Hope this helps Terry

Do CF light bulbs produce as much heat as incandescent bulbs?

No, compact fluorescent bulbs run much cooler that an incandescent bulb. A CF bulb can be unscrewed when the lamp is on whereas an incandescent will give you a bad burn if this is tried.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a fluorescent light bulb?

The fluorescent light bulb more efficiently converts electricity to light resulting in less heat produced. But in winter, heat being produced is not exactly a bad thing. Besides, fluorescent light bulbs are more expensive and have heavy metals in them, making them more toxic.

What make fluorescent bulbs flicker?

A fluorescent tube will flicker is the temperature is cold or the fixture has a bad ground to the electrical system.

Myths and Facts About Fluorescent Lights?

Fluorescent lights are an excellent choice for home, office, and school environments because they offer many benefits. Still, some myths persist that cause consumers to question the use of fluorescent bulbs. Here are the facts about this type of lighting. Myth: Fluorescent lights flicker, causing eye strain and even headaches. Fact: It used to be true that fluorescent lights had an annoying flicker, accompanied by a slight buzzing noise. Improved technology has eliminated these drawbacks. New fluorescent bulbs use an electronic ballast that produces a steady, silent light. Myth: Fluorescents are more energy-efficient than incandescent bulbs, but less efficient than halogen lighting. Fact: Compact fluorescent lights are almost three times more efficient than halogen bulbs (and more than ten times as efficient as incandescent bulbs). Moreover, fluorescent lighting doesn't consume any power when it is switched off. Halogen bulbs, in contrast, utilize transformers that can continue to consume power even when the light is turned off. Myth: Fluorescents are bad for the environment because they contain mercury. Fact: Fluorescent bulbs do contain a small bit of mercury, which means that they must be discarded in a responsible manner. However, not using fluorescent lights will result in even more mercury being released into the environment. This is because other forms of lighting consume more electricity, which is generated at this time mostly through the burning of fossil fuels. This produces power plant emissions containing mercury. The best way to reduce mercury in the environment is to burn fewer fossil fuels by using fluorescent lighting wherever possible. Myth: Fluorescent light bulbs won't fit inside certain light fixtures, such as the ceiling globes used in many factory-built homes. Fact: Again, this used to be the case, but the advent of the compact fluorescent light bulb changed everything. Today's fluorescent bulbs are smaller than a standard incandescent bulb and will fit in any lighting fixture designed for incandescent bulbs. Myth: You can't use fluorescent bulbs with dimmer switches. Fact: You can use dimmer switches that have set levels such as bright, brighter, and brightest -- as long as they are wired for fluorescent bulbs. However, continuous dimmer switches are still not used with fluorescents.

How are light bulbs bad for the earth?

They are bad for global warming! They waste electricity! They can cause fires and explosions! Although light bulbs are helpful, they are also bad for the earth.

Why part of the dashboard gauges light are off?

Bad light bulbs.... Replace them...

Why are incandescent bulbs bad for the environment?

The incandescent light bulb is not efficient. Incandescent light bulbs have been around for about 200 years. They produce an appealing warm yellowish light. Their small compact design makes them easy to install in even small table or bedside lamps. Until 30 years ago they were the only electric bulbs available for household lighting. Their biggest downside is that they are inefficient to operate in that they use a relatively large amount of electric power. Alternatives: CFL: Today the compact fluorescent lamp has provided a low-energy alternative . These bulbs were invented in the late 1970's. They initially cost more than traditional incandescent bulbs, but they last longer (8000 hours) and use around 80% less electric power for the same brightness. LEDs: these are a new product and relatively expensive to buy, but their efficiency is equal to or even better than CFL's. They have lifetime quoted as 25,000 hours use.

How do you replace a brake light on 2003 Chevy Trailblazer?

Open the rear hatch and you will see the retaining screws inside the door frame. You can then drop the light out to get access to the bulbs. If no bulbs are bad then you may have a bad circuit board.

When a fluorescent bulb burns out should you be able to smell the gas?

As long as the tube is intact there is no difference between whether it is burnt out or not. You shouldn't smell anything from inside the tube. Fluorescent bulbs to have a ballast which may emit a smell if it is faulty. In this case you may have a bad ballast and not a bad bulb. If you put in a new bulb and it doesn't work, it is likely the ballast that is bad.
