There are actually two types of computers and they process data differently:

  • Analog computers, these computers process data by analogy. Every value in the calculations on an analog computer has a continuous representation as a physical signal analogous to the value. Due to physical tolerances, thermal drift, part aging, etc. these values typically have only 2 to 4 digits of precision and repeating the same calculation several times typically gives somewhat different answers - but an analog computer built using similar technology as a digital computer will run faster, producing answers quicker.
  • Digital computers, these computers process data as coded digital values. Every value in the calculations on a digital computer has a quantized coded representation as one or more decimal digits or binary bits. These values can have as many digits of precision as desired and as digital computers are not sensitive to physical tolerances, thermal drift, parts aging, etc. repeating the same calculation several times will always give identical answers - but a digital computer built using similar technology as an analog computer will run slower, taking longer to produce answers.
Since the development of VLSI integrated circuits in the 1970s (and higher levels of integration since then) digital computer technological development has generally outpaced analog computer technological development and since the 1990s analog computers have effectively vanished. However for many things a simple very inexpensive analog computer could often outperform a modern digital computer at the same task. But few engineers have training in analog computing now, so they never consider them as an option when designing systems.

The vast majority of computers are digital computers; that means that data is held digitally - as numbers. The alternative is analogue where data is held as voltages.

How computers are useful?

A broad question, with equally broad answers. Computers are useful in many ways, from organizing complex data sets, storing large amounts of data (including WikiAnswer), interpreting said data (such as finding charts, plotting out data, trending and detrending data) displays of virtual worlds, communicating and associating with others, dealing with complex physics or engineering simulations... Really, the limit to the computer is more the data storage capacity and the speed of processing. Everything else is up to the user and programmer.

Can computers process numbers faster and more efficiently than alphanumeric character data three reasons why?

Computers cannot process anything but binary numbers. Even character strings are just arrays of whole numbers (character codes), so there is absolutely no difference in the processing speed of an array of integers and an array of characters. While the type of operations you will perform on strings are quite a bit different to the arithmetical operations you will perform with numeric data, as far as the computer is concerned there is no difference at all. It's all numeric so there's no difference in terms of processing speed. There is, however, a key difference when it comes to displaying the data in a human-readable form. Displaying a character is simply a matter of emitting the character code which maps directly to a corresponding glyph, such as a bitmap. But converting a binary value to a decimal value requires that each decimal digit be determined before it can be mapped to its corresponding raster. This clearly requires additional processing. The same can also be said of floating point values which require dedicated floating point co-processors to ease the burden. Integer arithmetic is simple by comparison. So, while there is little difference in terms of actual processing, there are differences when it comes to displaying the results. In that sense alone, character data can be dealt with more efficiently than numeric data. However, if character data is used to represent numeric data, such as the string "123.45", then numeric data is far more efficient because the string must be converted to and from an actual numeric value, whereas the numeric value does not.

What is qualititive research?

data from which statistics cannot be formed e.g. if your data is written answers/comments by people, this is qualitative data because all the answers are different, so you can't form statistics from them. However if your data is from [for example] a questionnaire and your data is split into how many said yes and how many said no, then this is quantitative data because you can split the data into '28% said no and 72% said yes' etc.

Explain briefly the various steps involved in processing of data?

5 Steps To Data ProcessingData is an integral part of all business processes. It is the invisible backbone that supports all the operations and activities within a business. Without access to relevant data, businesses would get completely paralyzed. This is because quality data helps formulate effective business strategies and fruitful business decisions. Therefore, the quality of data should be maintained in good condition in order to facilitate smooth business proceedings. In order to enhance business proceedings, data should be made available in all possible forms in order to increase the accessibility of the same.Data processing refers to the process of converting data from one format to another. It transforms plain data into valuable information and information into data. Clients can supply data in a variety of forms, be it .xls sheets, audio devices, or plain printed material. Data processing services take the raw data and process it accordingly to produce sensible information. The various applications of data processing can convert raw data into useful information that can be used further for business processes.Companies and organizations across the world make use of data processing services in order to facilitate their market research interests. Data consists of facts and figures, based on which important conclusions can be drawn. When companies and organizations have access to useful information, they can utilize it for strategizing powerful business moves that would eventually increase the company revenue and decrease the costs, thus expanding the profit margins. Data processing ensures that the data is presented in a clean and systematic manner and is easy to understand and be used for further purposes. Here are the 5 steps that are included in data processing:EditingThere is a big difference between data and useful data. While there are huge volumes of data available on the internet, useful data has to be extracted from the huge volumes of the same. Extracting relevant data is one of the core procedures of data processing. When data has been accumulated from various sources, it is edited in order to discard the inappropriate data and retain relevant data.CodingEven after the editing process, the available data is not in any specific order. To make it more sensible and usable for further use, it needs to be aligned into a particular system. The method of coding ensures just that and arranges data in a comprehendible format. The process is also known as netting or bucketing.Data EntryAfter the data has been properly arranged and coded, it is entered into the software that performs the eventual cross tabulation. Data entry professionals do the task efficiently.ValidationAfter the cleansing phase, comes the validation process. Data validation refers to the process of thoroughly checking the collected data to ensure optimal quality levels. All the accumulated data is double checked in order to ensure that it contains no inconsistencies and is utterly relevant.TabulationThis is the final step in data processing. The final product i.e. the data is tabulated and arranged in a systematic format so that it can be further analyzed. All these processes make up the complete data processing activity which ensures the said data is available for access.

If an employer is using keylogger on their computers do they have to disclose that to employees?

In the company that I was working in as a Technical Support Assistant, you did not have to say, unless asked, as it would (or should) be told by managers (so the person who interviewed you and then employed you). So yes it does have to be told, but in different companies different people may tell. But I think overall it has to be said, and it also has the be said that the data they collect will be protected by the Data Protection Act 1998.

What is gap in math?

Gap involves using graphs and line plots. The gap is a piece of data with no data in it between two pieces of data with data in it(there can be more than one gap between data pieces) For example, say people were being asked about their favored color. Out of ten people, 3 said yellow, 0 said orange, 4 said blue, and 3 said green. Orange would be the gap in the data.

When a data field is private it is said to be?

When a data field is private, it is said to be accessible only within the class where it is defined. Other classes cannot access or modify it directly. This helps to maintain data encapsulation and restrict external interference with the data.
