Constellations are different in winter because the earth spins around, so we see different stars every season.
winter is better for viewing. The nights are much more clear albeit cold for the observer. Many of the brighter stars and contellations are visible thru the night in the winter months.
There are 12 winter constellations. They are: Cancer, Canis Major, Canis Minor, Crater, Gemini, Hydra, Leo, Leo Minor, Lynx, Monoceros, Orion, and Sextans
Constellations are different in the winter for several reasons. A small reason is because the earth is in a different position around the sun. The sun then blocks some of the constellations we would normally see. Most of all, however, is the fact that the Earth tilts on it's axis. As the Earth enters winter, it tilts backwards on it's axis so that the northern hemisphere is farther from the sun. Think of it as tilting your head back slightly...you see a different view of the world around you.
