Many, many legends were created before people wrote them down. Legends and myths are told to explain why certain things happen, like fire and storms, they are told in order to preserve their society. They are also told in order to teach important lessons to children. There is a very fine line between what is considered myths and legends and what used to be the belief systems of ancient religions.
