B/c w/o measurements we'd have it real difficult to accurately describe something to other people. If we didn't have degrees of temperature for instance, weather reports would be next to useless. The forecasters would be left only with things like "a tad chillier than today".
And describing distance would be just as bad. W/o measurements, it'd be impossible to make anything but the most basic maps.
You could rewrite the senses of a human with possessive nouns by phrasing them as "the human's sense of sight," "the human's sense of hearing," "the human's sense of taste," "the human's sense of touch," and "the human's sense of smell."
