It has to do with ancient and hard-to-change attitudes in the culture. Women have to fight these old prejudices and stereotypes every day. It's not fair, but it's reality. However, just because it's not fair or hard to combat, doesn't mean that the fight isn't worth it. All women need to work on standing up for themselves and putting things right, particularly when sexism and injustice rear their heads.
