To add to that, whether a region decides a large cat is endangered or not, there was an informative segment on the Today Show, June 9th, 2011, and two very endangered cats, the African lion and the cheetah (were quoted as 40,000 and 12,000 respectively) are seen as a precious species terribly in danger of extinction and dwindling.

At some estimates, there are only 50,000 mountain lions in the wild, and too many of them seen as pests and targeted (just like the cheetah) by ranchers, and in North America, there is the added danger of the great cats getting hit by cars as humans branch out into the wilderness. The mountain lion does not get nearly the attention that an African lion or cheetah would. While there is no doubt that both cheetahs and mountain lions do kill livestock in their respective regions, both species cannot be targeted as a pest and expect to do well with that tag on their heads.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium (in northern California) is among one of many great resources on educating people on endangered animals and how we as humans could do better to coexist with the animal population around the world.
yes, the mountain lion is one of the fife hundred most endangered animals in the world.

NO (see above.)

Not sure where you got your information from, but the mountain lion is NOT endangered and/or even threatened. In fact, there are so many of them in certain areas, they cause conflicts with humans by eating domesticated animals (i.e. pets/farm animals). In worst case secenarios (most notably a few high-profile incidents in California) humans have been attacked, mauled, and even killed.

No..The adaptable puma is still fairly common from North America down through much of South America, in wild areas..One race, the Florida panther, is endangered, but the population has shown some increase of late..Eight female Texas pumas were introduced to add new blood to the gene pool, as the Florida cats were showing signs of inbreeding..The Texas race is very close genetically to the Florida.

As a whole, the species is quite healthy and not endangered. Only the Florida panther is listed as endangered due to habitat loss and vehicular accidents.
